NEW: Gateway Self-Study Course
The IDM Gateway course is an overview course covering all three perspectives of the Constructive Developmental Framework (CDF). This framework supports many different ways of consulting to clients’ mental process (“process consulting”) such as coaching, mentoring, management consulting and others. The course has no preconditions. It is a prerequisite for entering Modules A, B, and C.
The three perspectives presented in Gateway are all based on cutting-edge developmental research:
- Social-Emotional Development (Module A)
- Cognitive Development (Module B)
- Work Capacity, seen in relationship to adult development (Module C)
Each of these perspectives is subsequently deepened in Modules A, B, and C of Program One, respectively.
To judge from testimonials over the years, Gateway is likely to “overthrow the apple cart” of your life, since it helps you completely revamp your view of yourself and your clients. This is because Gateway makes you aware of the fact that the social world in which you live is stratified in the sense that people ‘live’ on different levels of social-emotional meaning making and cognitive sense making, whether they live in the U.S. or in China.
Gateway helps you to adopt a more realistic and crisp view of the social world where people of different levels of development live together and barely ‘understand’ each other. Gateway also instills in you the hypothesis that the two strands of adult development, of the way you make meaning of your experiences and ‘understand’ the world, are very different indeed. Consequently, you begin to ask yourself: ‘how well balanced are these two strands of development in myself at this point in time?’
Another shift Gateway helps you make is about the issue of how ‘behavior’ and ‘learning’ relate to development. You learn that, while your behavior patterns were formed in childhood in adolescence and can never be left behind, your adult development gives you many opportunities to “straighten them out.” You get a glimpse of what makes you do what you do, and why, even without an explicit assessment.
In short, Gateway lives up to its name. It is a gate to walk through if you want to take responsibility for yourself.
